General Conference Anything....I love it!!!

So this last weekend was woman's general conference. Let me first tell you that Crown burger, they are doing the smart thing. For any car that wants to park in thier parking lot for any reason they have to pay for a 14 dollar food voucher that has to be used at thier resturant before the end of the night, so for 2 cars it was 28 bucks!! What smart people! Anyway, I went with my mother and my sister Keri. We had some awesome tickets. Never before have I gone in thinking that I would get to sit practically 15th row from the very very front! Every chaperon I talked to just kept saying.."go down". If I had really good vision I could have seen the sweat on the speakers faces. But even though I couldn't do that, I COULD see their feet shifting under them. I loved listening to all the speakers. But I will tell you my favorite part of going to the conference center. It is when the prophet walks in and the room stands and everyone goes completely silent. IT IS AMAZING!!! The spirit is so strong and it fills the whole room, and their is not one doubt in my mind that he is a true prophet of the Lord. AND My sister Debbie was so very fortunate to be able to sing in the stake choir that sang during the session, which was so cool I saw her TWICE on the big screen TV in the conference center. She told me that during their choir practice someone told her that for every person singing there are three angels standing around them, and I believe it. They sounded so good. After the session Keri, my mom, and I went to crown burger that is about a block away had some dinner and then I headed back to provo. It was such a fun night!

Date nights.....I love them!!!

So last night our friends Justin and Tawsha invited us to go see a comedian in Sandy. They are such a fun couple and we love doing things with them. I was glad that they invited us to go. I had never been to any kind of comedian show before so I wanted to go really bad. The comedian was Jason Hewlette (spell check). He is from Utah and his show was pretty funny!
For most of his show he did singing musical impressions, which was pretty funny, but the end was the best. He is able to move his face in crazy different ways and he encouraged us all to go home and try...so I did! (that is what the pictures are all about!) But he talked about going to the dentist and how he likes to mess with them with his facial expressions. Okay I am not doing it justice at all, but just take my word for it. It was so funny!
These pictures kind of show what he is able to do with his face, but he does it fast and so much better! It was funny!

Just a thought....

Before we were married!

When we got married!

Here we are now! Happy as can be!!

I don't know what it is, but lately I have been getting the question "So how long you been married?" I don't know if I just haven't noticed it much in the past or what but I think I got ask by 3 or 4 different people all in one day. Which just got me thinking. I have been married 1 year, 8 months, 3 weeks, and 1 day. I can't believe how fast the time has gone. I still feel like it was yesterday that I got married but then at the same time I feel that being Smedley has always been a part of me. I have that "I feel like I am complete" feeling, I have my other half, and it feels good. I have a better understanding of the saying "my better half" that is exactly what David is. He makes me want to be a better person and he is always pushing me to do better and be better. He has always been someone for me to lean on in hard time, and a shoulder to cry on. He always finds a way to make me smile when I am feeling down and is appreciative of the things that I do for him. David and I have had our hard times and we have had our good times. We have done some fun things, and we have done some not so fun things. Our first year was not easy, but I am happy to announce that we made it through and have come out an even happier couple. More in love than the day we said yes. I can't believe how much time has flow by. I am grateful for David and the man that he is.

Come what may, rain or shine, I can handle anything with David by my side!

Can I just tell you how wonderful our neighbors are....

Well when David was worshiping our porcelain thrown I was up in West Point visiting family. David was supposed to come meet me in Salt Lake after he was done with his class, but due to his poor health and lack of immobility from our thrown he was stuck at home.

Well, around 10:30, just as David was about to leave Mark and Laura from up stairs came to drop off some treats to us. They saw how horrible David looked and felt, and he explained what he was just about to do. He asked Mark and Jeff (from downstairs) if they would give him a blessing, and they did. Then he was going to be on his way but.......

Mark and Laura wouldn't let him drive that far. Thank heavens! He wouldn't have been able to drive 1 mile without stopping to throw up. So Laura volunteered to come pick me up 30 minutes away, by herself, at night just because she is so sweet! and Mark stayed with David to make sure he would be alright until Laura and I got back!

How sweet and wonderful are they!!!
We couldn't have asked for better neighbors!!
We are so grateful for all of our neighbors
and friends that we have made while living here!
We have been so blessed!!

A lesson to be learned.....

Well I just have to say, that every since David and I have been married I have told him over and lover again that when he pulls out the head of lettuce from the fridge that he needs to wash off the leaves that he pulls off.

Well poor David just assumed that if he washed the whole head the first time that you wouldn't have to wash the layers underneath....even if it was the 8th one down....

Well for lunch the day after my birthday, he made himself a salad with a head of lettuce from our frigde. He pulled it out peeled of some leaves, didn't wash them, flicked off some bugs, didn't wash them, and then ate it.

Okay this is where I say "GROSS DAVE, didn't you think that if you flicked off some bugs that you REALLY needed to wash it?"

Well the poor man got food poisoning and he was SO sick. I have never seen him so sick! It was scary, he threw up over 30 times, and had diarrhea. We were worried that it was something so serious. He couldn't keep anything down. He tried ice, and water, and 7-up and crackers. But nothing worked.

We were getting so worried, we almost went to the ER. I asked David what he wanted to do, and he said that he wasn't sure, but he had never thrown up this much in his entire life (which in other words means that he really wants to go.) So I went into the other room and said a quick little prayer asking for guidance for what we should do. I got the feeling that going to the doctor wasn't what we needed to do. It was hard for me to tell David that, because he was so miserable and I just wanted to make him feel better, but I didn't feel that going would do anything for him. I felt that if we went they would give him some 800$ Advil and tell him to go home and rest.

So we didn't go. We stayed home. David had to rush to the bathroom a few more times, but around 2:30 he started feeling better. He stayed home the next day just to make sure. Now he is feeling much better, and hopefully he has learned his lesson on washing the head of lettuce EVERY TIME he eats some.

How is life going you ask?

Well let me give a little up date. School is going pretty well for both David and me. I am already into my 4 week of school and it has flown by. I am really enjoying my classes. Some of my teachers are crazy, and some are just the opposite!

Let me tell you about an expirence I had just the other day. I went into my accounting class (my teacher is all about real life application) and we are trying to have Rob Mathes come to UVU for an hononary doctorate. Well he had set up these e-mail chain things where the teacher sends and e-mail to two class managers who then send the email to the class leaders who then send it to the rest of us little people. Well he came to class the other day and asked who had sent thier e-mails...well one 3 people raised their hands. The class gave a little giggle but then were stopped mid giggle when the teacher said the f-word, the d-word, the h-word and continued to lecture us for the next 20 minutes about how we are all unpromotable. It was crazy and so very uncomfortable. The most interesting thing about it was that everything that was in the e-mail he had already given us a hard copy of.....EVERYTHING!!! I couldn't believe it!! I couldn't believe that he went off for so long for something we already had!! The teacher did apologize and has been doing better. I really do enjoy the class. My teacher must of just been having a bad day.

All of my other classes are going well. I am learning how to hit and kick in my self defense class which is so fun and the teacher is awesome!! Calculus........well that is another language that I am still learning to speak. My power tone class is working....I am already fitting into some pants that were previously to tight! Today was a happy day when I put them on. :D and I am just really loving school this semester.

David really likes his schedule. His classes are on the little bit of the hard side. The poor man has a tough semester ahead of him. He actually has to take a test tomorrow. So say a pray for him!!

But we are both doing very well even though we are so busy that, at times, it is hard to find time to just spend with one another, but we are happy and I just have to remember that this time of our lives will pass, but we should love it because I know that the memories and the choices that we make now together as a couple will be a foundation for the rest of our lives. Something that we can look back on and smile and laugh about.

TEN THINGS I DON'T REALLY LIKE ABOUT SCHOOL!

1. TEACHERS THAT SAY THE F-WORD.
2. STUDENTS THAT SAY THE F-WORD.
3. TEACHERS THAT ARE HARD TO UNDERSTAND BECAUSE I DON'T SPEAK THEIR LANGUAGE.
4. THAT FEELING WHEN WAKE UP IN THE Morning THINKING THAT YOU ARE DOING GOOD IN LIFE WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN YOU REALIZE YOU FORGOT TO DO AN ASSIGNMENT THAT IS DUE IN 1 HOUR.
5. PEOPLE WHO ARE RUDE TO YOU BECAUSE YOU CAN'T KEEP TRACK OF YOUR STUDENT ID CARD (IT IS NOT MY FAULT I AM ON MY 4 PICTURE IN 2 YEARS...I HAVE A STUDENT ID THIEF.....I AM SURE OF IT!!)
6. THE FACT THAT TEACHERS EXPECT THEIR CLASS TO BE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU WILL EVER DO IN LIFE AND SO THEY STACK ON THE HOMEWORK TO MAKE YOU THE BEST AT IT....WHEN IN REALITY YOU ARE ONLY TAKING IT BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO!!!
7. I CAN'T BE HOME TO CLEAN MY HOUSE...SO BEWARE IF YOU COME DURING THE WEEK, BUT IF YOU DO, DON'T WORRY, I WILL DIG YOU A PATH TO THE COUCH SO YOU CAN SIT DOWN!
8. EXPENSIVE FOOD! DON'T' THEY REALIZE THAT MOST OF THE PEOPLE THERE ARE POOR!! THEY SHOULD ONLY BE ALLOWED DOLLAR MENUS!:)
9. HOW HEAVY MY BOOK BAG HAS TO BE! REALLY ARE ALL OF MY TEXT BOOKS NECESSARY!!
10. AND THE MOST IMPORTANT IT IS THE TIME THAT I HAVE TO BE AWAY FROM DAVID!

so vehicles.....who needs them!!!

I think we should go back to horse drawn carriages!!
So a little while ago we bought a motorcycle for David (I know dangerous, but the gas mileage that it got was so wonderful) but then it was starting to have problems, so David asked a guy from the ward to come help him take it apart and see what needs to be fix.....well as it turned out instead of helping David fix it, he pretty much ruined it..... completely. But even though the motorcycle was broken we were okay. We still had two vehicles to drive but then.......

On the 1st of September, David was in a hurry home. He was leaving work when he ran into someone. He looked down for a half a second and when he looked up, BAMB! There they were!! But no worries no one got hurt and the only damage to anything was to Davids little white truck. He ran into the other guys hitch so it didn't do anything to his truck. But for us it smashed in the front bummer, which then in turn smashed in the radiator which then drained all of the antifreeze liquid. And for those of you who don't already know, you need that to keep your car cooled down when you drive and if you don't have the antifreeze liquid it will burn up your engine and ruin it completely. So for a little while there we were a one car family.

For some people that might work just fine....but not me!!! I can't handle being stranded!

Some days, David would have to drop me off to school a half to and hour early...and if you don't recall I am already at school for 11 hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but I did it!! I didn't like it, but I did it.
But thanks to my, wonderful in laws they are letting us use there mini van (that they are trying to sell) until David can find someone to fix his truck!! So we both have something to drive Yahoo!!!

Thank you so much Scott and Julie!!

We love you!

ANGELS IN DISGUISE...

So we have some of the best neighbors. But before I get very far into that here are just of couple of things you need to know. One, David on my birthday ran into some guy, and totally smashed in his front bumper which in turn smashed the radiator and drained all of the antifreeze liquid. Two, someone from our ward came to help David get his motorcycle working and instead helped make it so it is not able to turn on at all. So we are a one car family. And last but not least, three, I always tell David to wash the head of lettuce EVERY TIME he uses it now matter what layer he is on. Now, on to the story. I know I have said this before but it is more true now than ever that we have some of the best neighbors, and to prove it, Last Wednesday I was down in West Point spending my day off with family. David was back here in Provo for school. He was going to come get me in Salt Lake after he was done with school. Well that day he made himself a salad for lunch(which I found out later was unwashed and he flicked off two bugs. Please don't think that I don't wash my food or keep it clean. Because I do.) Anyway, the poor boy caught a very scary and nasty case of food poisoning. He went to class and couldn't make it through. He ran to the bathroom several times and spent most of the class in there. He finally made it home and spent 95% of the time home in the bathroom or on the bathroom floor. He says that he threw up about 30 times that day. He was in no condition to come and get me. But being the loving husband he is, he was going to up and get me even if he had to stop off on the side of the road every two minutes, he was going to do it. But then Mark and Laura knocked on our door. David answered not looking good at all, and talked to them telling them how he was feeling. David then asked Mark if he could give him a blessing with Jeff (downstairs neighbor) They gave him a blessing, then Mark stayed with David to make sure he was going to be okay until I got there. Laura volunteered to come get me 30 minutes away at 10:30 at night without even blinking an eye. .

There is nothing like a birthday to make you feel important!!

So happy real birthday to me!! and like I had said there is nothing like a birthday to make you feel important. I went to school at 9 went to my classes had a good work out learned a lot and got to leave math class early. (Don't worry I got almost all my homework done before I left class). So I got to leave school at 6 instead of 8 because David wanted to take me to dinner in the Salt Lake Valley. I was excited. He also told me that we could stop by and say hello to my parents since we were going to be so close. So we got on our way, the whole way trying to figure out where he was going to take me because he wanted it to be a surprise. But little did I know that the surprise was that he invited all my siblings and all of his, except for those who are out of state of course. But we were driving and David asked me If I wanted to go see my parents first and then we could go to dinner. I didn't really want to I was starving. But he made a good point of it would be late when we got out and my parents would probably be in bed, so I agreed. We drove to my parents house through a few phone calls and David changing his mind of whether or not we would go get dinner before we went. It was then that I realized that something was up. We went to Lucky China and got dinner to go. and then we drove to my parents. We arrived to a dark house and went in through the garage (since David lost all my house keys..bless his heart!!) and as I opened the door I could see the lights from the candles on the cake lighting the room. As I walked around the corner, there on the table, was a cake with flower petals all around it. I walked up the stairs and that is when everyone popped out. I felt so loved. There was Byron, Keri, Bradley, Lilly, Kirk, Debbie, Bryant, Cameron, Celika, Emerson, Taylor, Hayden, Varci, Polly, Jordan, Kaylee, Benj, Holly, Brunson, and Connor and my parents. It was so fun having everyone there!! David spoiled me for my birthday. Not only did he get me a set of new scriptures with my new name on them he gave me what I have been asking for forever.........a surprise birthday party.....TWICE. I love him so much and I love all of my family, and all of my friends!! Thanks to everyone I know I am loved and cared about and that means more than anyone will ever know.

Happy Happy Birthday to me!!!

My wonderful friend Laura Butler

The cake was so good!!

Laura gave me a cute sign that she bought in Chicago for my birthday!

Happy Suprise Birthday #1 to me!!!
So I have such and AMAZING husband. He is so thoughtful of me. Monday night he surprised me with surprise birthday #1. He make me a double layer chocolate cake with frosting in between the two layers. Well he mixed up the batter, and then took it up stairs to my wonderful neighbors to bake it. I didn't expect a thing. He had invited some of our friends over, but I did not expect a thing. Even when he kept leaving to go upstairs to talk to our neighbors. (I found out later it was so he could frost the cake) But then David came down stairs with Mark and Laura with the cake lit all up and singing the Happy Birthday song. I probably got a little teary eyed but for the most part kept my emotions under control. It was such a fun surprise!! I have some of the best neighbors anyone could ask for. My friend Laura gave me the cutest little sign. I love it!! It was such a good night!
