The next couple of days in Cambodia...

I will post more later...for some reason my camera stopped uploading pictures...I will try again tomorrow.

Cambodia...first couple of days...

August 14, 2011 I fulfilled one of my most desired dreams...I got to ride an airplane with David, and what a flight it was. A 24 hour flight to be exact. We arrived at the airport at 6:30 am. My mom was so sweet to drive us to the airport with Brantley. I thought I would have a harder time leaving him then I did, it probably helped that I wouldn't let myself cry. I did tear up a little bit thought but I didn't cry like I thought I would. But I love traveling. I love going to the airport. We didn't have any trouble at the SLC airport. We zipped right through everything. Except for Milli, David's 10 year old niece that paid her own way through!! AMAZING GIRL!) she was wearing sparkling things on her pants and had to gt the pat down. Jenny was furious! But we got on the plane and it was just a quick hour flight to LA where we had a layover for two hours...this is where we almost didn't make it any further...

Milli, the poor girl, left her passport in the pocket of the plane getting off from SLC. No one realized it until we got to the Koren Air check in counters and Millie told us that she left it in the airplane. We all went into a panic and ran for the gates we just came from. We probably wouldn't have ran so hard if we would have remembered the time change, but then again maybe not. We were sure the plane had left we the passport and no way for Millie to get past LA. We were all running frantically. We met a few not very nice or helpful people first but then ran right into (thanks to David) who gave Jenny all the security clearance to get back to the gate who had found Millies passport and held it for her. The guy in the green shirt helped us out with Korean air with explaining to them our problem in their language. LA is like a whole different country. But after we got back to Korean Air and got all of our boarding passes we were smooth sailing until we got to Cambodia. The flight was so long. We were able to have their own personal TV's that had movies, games, TV shows etc. But, for me anyways, I can only watch so much TV. So I tried sleeping. After so long I got kind of sick. The first plate of food wasn't so bad, but the second one made me sick and the third was worst of all. I couldn't eat anything off of that. Needless to say we were all very happy to land. I couldn't believe how humid it was as soon as we got off the plane. I have NEVER been anywhere so humid in my life.

We landed in Cambodia at about 10:30pm and went to the mission home which is so beautiful. I didn't feel the jet lag right away. It took a couple of days to set in, but it probably helped leaving the Utah in the morning and getting to Cambodia at a time to go to bed.

Our first day there we went to a zone conference. I always wanted to go on a mission, so going to this zone conference gave me a little piece of what being on a mission would be like. After the zone conference Julie, Jenny and I went to a market called the Olympic market. We took a ride in a tuk tuk (I think that is how you spell it) it is cart pulled by a scooter. I loved it. When we arrived at the market we walked through the meat part. The worst smelling thing I have ever smelled in my life. I am so glad I wasn't pregnant. The best part was the rats I saw trying to get into the fish tank. The top floor of the market was filled wall to wall and floor to ceiling with material at an amazing price for most of it. I got material to get a skirt and shorts made.

We also made our way to an orphanage. As soon as we got out of the car all the children came running up to give everyone hugs. They were so sweet. We went and sat down to watch a program that they had put together for us. They started off by coming forward and saying their name and age. Then sang 3 primary songs (in English) and they aren't even LDS. They sang I am a Child of God first it brought me to tears. They sang it in English first and then in their own language. The then did a whole bunch of dances native to Cambodia.David niece then brought some books, candy, and a bracelet for every child. I think they really loved them. After their program and Millie giving her things to them they gave us a tour. What humbling experiences they live in. We are so blessed. The pots are how they cook and the bags on the wall are mushrooms. They grow mushrooms to raise money. These kids are so amazing.

We then went to the Russian Market (called Russian because it was built by the Russians) where I got almost all of my souvenirs. I loved this market and wish I could have spent more time here walking around.

The people were all so unbelievably nice and almost all of them tried to speak English to us. The first couple of days were so great. The country is beautiful, very poor, but so beautiful.

Never Forgotten

Dear blog...I haven't forgotten about you I just have been to busy getting ready to go to Cambodia, then going to Cambodia, then coming home from Cambodia, going to school, doing homework for school, taking care of a very active, crawling, teething, almost 11 month old, and trying to work out a schedule between David, me and Brantley. I have also been having fun with girls nights, the women's expo, family time, and cleaning. I know you would like to hear all about it and see all the pictures...in due time my dear friend. As soon as I can get all settled back into real life. Which I am getting closer and closer to each day. I am thinking that this weekend I will have a little alone time with you and we'll chat about the past present and future. So until that time. take luck!
